\nOXFORD, Miss – Love is in the air, and the University of
\nMississippi’s student dance group, Mississippi: The Dance
\nCompany, offers a concert that examines nine different
\nanswers to the question and title of the show: “What’s Love
\nGot to Do with It?”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe show opened Wednesday (Feb. 13) and runs through
\nSaturday. Performances in Meek Hall Auditorium begin at 8
\np.m. each day, plus a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nTickets are $10.50 for adults, $8.50 for children and
\nseniors, and $7 for UM students. They can be purchased at
\nthe UM Box Office, online at
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nIt?’ is a great big, giant, moving Valentine’s Day card,
\nexamining love from all angles,” said Jennifer Mizenko,
\nartistic director of the dance company and associate
\nprofessor of theatre arts. “(There’s) something for
\neveryone’s taste, from partner swing dancing to ballet, to
\nmodern.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe performances examine the many different sides of
\nrelationships, such as friendship, love of self and
\nspiritual love, Mizenko said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe show also features the choreography of senior theatre
\narts major Derek Barham of Monticello, junior English major
\nLydia Siniard of Cartersville, Ga., and senior theatre arts
\nmajor Lauren Wakefield of Jackson. Barham choreographed two
\npieces, and Siniard and Wakefield each choreographed one.
\nThe students have been working on the pieces since a dance
\ncomposition class last spring.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“It’s the most fulfilling thing to see your work onstage on
\nsomeone else,” said Wakefield, whose dance represents
\nrelationships between video game characters. “This, and
\ndirecting and design, it all kind of goes together in a
\nfinal product that you can see.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nStudents have been choreographing company dances for about
\n10 years, but this production showcases “the most student
\nworks we’ve ever presented in one concert,” Mizenko said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nBarham said his dance “Crush” represents falling in love
\nwith a best friend, and his second piece, “(There is No)
\nModern Romance,” takes a look into relationships that
\nappear to be going well but are actually flawed.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nSiniard applied a personal experience to her dance, which
\nexplores how a close-knit group of friends cope when one of
\nthem must go away. “‘What’s Love Got to Do with It?’
\nreally is sort of a roller coaster ride, just like a
\nrelationship is,” Barham said. “It’s got a lot of ups and
\ndowns. As with any good dance show, there’s a little bit of
\neverything.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe show’s other choreographers are Mizenko, Rene Pulliam,
\nassociate professor of theatre arts, and Genevieve Fortner
\nand Jimmyle Listenbee, both adjunct instructors of theatre
\narts. Performers include the 25 students in the company,
\nMizenko, Listenbee and Laura Johnson, assistant professor
\nof psychology, as well as guest performer Ellie Williams.
