X2 impact sensors were used in Ole Miss spring football practice to document head impact during plays.<\/p><\/div>\n

High school students from across the nation are at Ole Miss\u00a0this summer for the Heads in the Game: Concussion Research Program<\/a> and will present their mid-term research findings Tuesday (July 14) with a poster presentation.<\/p>\n

The students arrived on campus June 28 and began working with the Center for Health and Sports Performance <\/a>to use X2 Biosystems concussion detection software, which is used by Ole Miss, the NFL, the NHL and major league soccer teams. They are testing the equipment and software in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to monitor impacts from football players wearing the devices in real time.<\/p>\n

The program, which is the first of its kind, is a partnership between Ole Miss Athletics and the University of Mississippi Department of Electrical Engineering<\/a> and Division of Outreach. It involves researching innovative STEM approaches for the care and training of college athletes. Discussions will also include training about concussion safety, nutrition and sports performance.<\/p>\n

The high school students will present their research July 14 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Grill at 1810, located inside the Olivia and Archie Manning Athletics Performance Center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
