\n OXFORD, Miss. – The Oxford branch of the American
\nAssociation of University Women is preparing for
\nits annual Jan Hawks Memorial Book Sale to benefit
\nthe AAUW Educational Foundation, the world’s
\nlargest source of funding for graduate women.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\n The sale is set for Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 25-26)
\nin the lobby of the University of Mississippi
\nStudent Union. Hours are 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n The Oxford chapter has been organizing this
\nfundraiser for more than a decade and last year
\nreceived around 3,000 donated books, said Christina
\nTorbert, chapter president.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n “That was an exceptionally large number,” she said.
\n“I hope we receive about 2,500 donated books this
\nyear .”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n The books include a variety of genres and subjects,
\nincluding fiction and nonfiction, scholarly texts,
\npopular titles and even the occasional textbook.
\nPricing depends on the cover of the book.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n “We generally charge $1 for hardbacks and 50 cents
\nfor paperback,” she said. “We do screen the
\ndonations for books of greater value, and those
\nbooks will be individually priced.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n AAUW is still accepting donations for this year’s
\ndrive. Drop-off locations include the San Francisco
\nBread Company, First National Bank on the Oxford
\nSquare, Chaney’s Pharmacy and the UM Sarah Isom
\nCenter for Women in Johnson Commons.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n The Oxford branch of AAUW has 25 members, including
\nuniversity faculty and members of the local
\ncommunity. Requirements for membership include an
\nassociate’s degree; however, student memberships
\nare also available.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n “Potential members should also have a belief in the
\nbenefits of equal education for girls and women,”
\nTorbert said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n Annual membership dues are $64, and student
\nmemberships are available to undergraduates for
\n$32.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
