\nOXFORD, Miss. – A successful Jackson businessman, who
\ndeveloped a technology commercialization model for NASA
\nthat is being used around the world, is scheduled to
\ndeliver a public lecture Tuesday (Feb. 26) at the
\nUniversity of Mississippi.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nRandy Goldsmith, CEO of Mississippi Technology Alliance and
\na specialist in technology-based economic development,
\nspeaks at 10 a.m. in Connor Hall, Room 110. Hosted by the
\nSchool of Business Administration, the presentation is part
\nof the Otho Smith Lecture Series and is planned especially
\nin the interest of MBA students.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“As CEO of the Mississippi Technology Alliance, Dr.
\nGoldsmith seeks to strengthen Mississippi’s technology
\nculture, and we believe it is very important for MBA
\nstudents to understand the elements that drive innovation
\nin our state,” said John Holleman, director of corporate
\nrelations and MBA services for the business school. “The
\nemphasis that MTA places on entrepreneurship is especially
\nimportant for MBA students as they consider possibilities
\nfor starting their own businesses, whether it be soon after
\ntheir graduation in May or at some point into the future.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nGoldsmith’s model for technology commercialization was
\ndeveloped for NASA Regional Technology Transfer Centers. It
\nis also being used by economic development organizations
\nand professional consultants and companies in the United
\nKingdom, South Africa, Sweden, Puerto Rico and throughout
\nthe United States.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nGoldsmith received his bachelor’s degree from Hardin
\nSimmons University and his doctoral and master’s degrees in
\nurban and regional planning from Texas A&M University.
\nBefore joining MTA, he was assistant vice president for
\ntechnology transfer and economic development for the
\nUniversity of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
\nHe has more than 20 years of corporate and small business
\nexperience as a founding entrepreneur and CEO.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe Otho Smith Lecture Series, initiated in 1981 through a
\ngrant from the Phil B. Hardin Foundation, brings prominent
\nbusiness executives to the UM campus as guest speakers. It
\nis named for Otho Smith, the late Meridian businessman,
\nphilanthropist and former president of the UM Alumni
\nAssociation.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
