OXFORD, Miss. – The School of Business Administration at
\nthe University of Mississippi has announced new titles and
\nadditional responsibilities for two faculty members as part
\nof the school’s plan to continue its record of excellence
\nin education.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\nCharles H. Noble, associate professor and Morris Lewis
\nLecturer in Marketing, has been given the additional title
\nof director of MBA programs, and Bonnie Van Ness, associate
\nprofessor of finance, retains her faculty title and is the
\nnew interim assistant dean for undergraduate programs.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nInterim Dean Ken Cyree said he appreciates Noble’s and Van
\nNess’ dedication and looks forward to working with them to
\nmake the business school the best that it can be.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n“I am very thankful for the roles assumed by Drs. Noble and
\nVan Ness,” Cyree said. “These are important to the future
\nof the school and they have stepped up to fill these needs.
\nIt is an honor to work with such dedicated scholars and
\nteachers who care about the job they are doing and the
\nfuture of our institution. I am pleased that they have
\nchosen to help us move forward and I know they will do a
\nfantastic job.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nUnder his new title, Noble has specific goals for enhancing
\nthe MBA program.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n“We want to continue the development of our MBA program to
\nexpand enrollment in a measured way while emphasizing the
\nimportance of high-quality students and academic
\nexperiences,” he said. “In addition to enhancing our
\nfull-time program, I would particularly like to see us
\nincrease the flexibility of our offerings to accommodate
\ngeographically disbursed and time-challenged adult
\nlearners.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nIn her new post, Van Ness plans to focus on teaching
\neffectiveness and ensuring that the school’s core
\ncurriculum stays current and meets student needs.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n“I will work diligently to make sure that our students are
\nreceiving high-quality educations; that is, educations that
\nwill help them be successful when they graduate,” she
\nsaid.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nAn Ole Miss MBA graduate herself, Van Ness said that her
\nplans include assessing teaching and scholarship to
\ncontinually improve the value of the Ole Miss business
\ndegree.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n“I believe my position is important because I can help the
\nSchool of Business deliver meaningful and relevant courses
\nto students and help promote faculty scholarship to
\nincrease knowledge about business,” Van Ness said. “I will
\nassist the school in the administration of programs and
\nhelp attract and retain outstanding students and faculty.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nNoble said he will seek support from faculty, alumni and
\nother members of the Ole Miss community as he helps the MBA
\nprogram grow to become a leading program in the Southeast.
\nHe also plans to explore creative partnerships with the
\nregion’s evolving business development, such as the Toyota
\nand Nissan plants.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\n“The MBA is, in many ways, the most visible and
\nhigh-profile program offered by any business school,” Noble
\nsaid. “Therefore, we need to do whatever is necessary to
\nsolidify this as a flagship program.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nNoble has been a member of the Ole Miss business school
\nfaculty for seven years. Formerly director of the school’s
\nPh.D. program, he conducts research on innovation and new
\nproduct development, focusing on product design. He holds a
\nPh.D. in marketing from Arizona State University, MBA from
\nBabson College and bachelor’s of science in finance from
\nBoston College.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n\nVan Ness has been an associate professor of finance for six
\nyears. Besides leading an investments doctoral seminar, she
\nalso teaches investments, securities analysis and the
\nportfolio management class for senior finance majors. She
\nreceived her MBA at Ole Miss in 1987. She completed her
\nundergraduate degree at the University of North Alabama and
\nPh.D. at the University of Memphis. Before joining the UM
\nfaculty, she taught at Christian Brothers University,
\nMarshall University and Kansas State University.
