\nOXFORD, Miss. – Authentic Thai cuisine is to be featured in
\nthe second civic dinner hosted by the Cook! Eat! Share!
\norganization at the University of Mississippi at 6 p.m.
\nWednesday (March 5).
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nScheduled in Lenoir Hall, the dinner offers a three-course
\nmeal, including selections of appetizers, main courses and
\ndesserts. Main courses include Tom Yum Kung, a hot and sour
\nsoup with shrimp and chicken; and Panaeng Gai, a spicy
\nchicken curry dish served with Jasmine rice.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nCost of the dinner is $14 and reservation requests should
\nbe e-mailed to Daphne Ingene at ceshare@olemiss.edu by
\nMarch 3.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nIngene, a native of Hong Kong and graduate student in
\ncounseling education, is the dinner coordinator. The Cook!
\nEat! Share! organization was created in fall 2007 by UM’s
\nCounseling Center, Office of International Programs and
\nDepartment of Family and Consumer Sciences. The
\nmulticultural organization includes students and faculty
\nspouses representing countries of Western Europe, Asia and
\nSouth America, as well as the United States.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nIngene said the event uses food as a means to explain
\ndifferent cultures, traditions and customs. Participants
\nwill be exposed to Thai music, traditional clothing and
\ndiscussions on culture.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“For instance, Thai food uses a lot of spices, and the
\nreason is that the country is located so close to the
\nequator where it is very hot,” she said. “So, they need
\nstrong seasoning to make food appetizing.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nShe added that the overwhelmingly positive response to the
\norganization’s first event, which featured Chinese food and
\ncultural lessons, demonstrated an interest in additional
\nCook! Eat! Share! events. The organization is planning
\nevents featuring food from Brazil in April and Ecuador in
\nMay.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
