\nOXFORD, Miss. – The Women’s Glee choral group at the
\nUniversity of Mississippi has been chosen to perform at the
\nSouthern Division Convention of the American Choral
\nDirectors Association in Louisville, Ky., which kicks off
\nWednesday (March 5).
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe choir is slated to present a 25-minute program on the
\nfinal day of the convention, at 10 a.m. Saturday (March 8)
\nat the Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe 45-member ensemble was chosen based on recordings
\nsubmitted from over the past three years, said Debra
\nSpurgeon, choir director.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“In the choral world, participating in an ACDA convention
\nis one of the highest honors; it’s something all choral
\nensembles aspire to do,” said Spurgeon, associate professor
\nof music. “It has educational value for the students,
\nbecause they can learn a lot and grow from the experience.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe group performs music of the highest caliber
\nrepresenting all stylistic periods and genres. Membership
\nin the choir is by audition and approximately half of the
\nmembers are music majors with the other half coming from
\nvarious other academic majors.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nIn 2006, the Women’s Glee performed by invitation during
\nthe Mississippi Music Educators convention in Jackson. Last
\nyear, another Ole Miss choral group, the Concert Singers,
\nwas invited to perform during the ACDA’s national
\nconvention in Miami.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
