{"id":55,"date":"2010-03-01T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-01T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ezing.me\/transfer\/?p=55"},"modified":"2014-09-23T08:35:44","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T13:35:44","slug":"law-delay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/law-delay\/","title":{"rendered":"Weather Delays Opening Of New Law School Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Rounds of winter weather that hit the Mid-South this year have pushed back the projected opening date for the new law school facility at the University of Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>UM law Dean Samuel M. Davis said 69 working days have been lost due to weather, over and above the seasonal averages normally provided in the construction contract. Despite the delays, work on the new facility is progressing quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConstruction on the new home of the School of Law, the Robert C. Khayat Law Center, is going well,\u201d he said. \u201cThe exterior form of the new building is now a clear landmark to those entering campus from the west along Coliseum Drive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three-story, 130,000-square-foot building lacks the installation of some windows before being declared fully \u201cin the dry,\u201d Davis said. The roof of the building is complete, and the contractor is concentrating on interior work.<\/p>\n<p>With a new completion date set for early October, the law school will be able to \u201crigorously commission\u201d the new building in the form of building system tests, much like a new ship runs sea trials before being fully operational, Davis said.<\/p>\n<p>The faculty and staff will begin moving into the new building in November and December, with classes set to begin there in January 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe design and construction team remains committed to the highest quality work,\u201d Davis said. \u201cWhen it is complete, the building will make a lasting and major contribution to the Ole Miss campus, both architecturally and academically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umlawcampaign.com\/.\">http:\/\/www.umlawcampaign.com\/.<\/a><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Rounds of winter weather that hit the Mid-South this year have pushed back the projected opening date for the new law school facility at the University of Mississippi.
