\nOXFORD, Miss. — The year 2008 as a defining point in time
\nis the focus for discussion during the 13th annual
\nInsurance Symposium March 25-26 at the University of
\nMississippi.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nFeatured speakers are Robert Hartwig, president and CEO of
\nthe Insurance Information Institute; Brian Dowd, chairman
\nof ACE USA; and Mario Vitale, CEO of Zurich Global
\nCorporate.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nOther speakers include Peter Burton, senior division
\nexecutive with NCCI Holdings; Scott McDonough, regional
\nvice president of The Hartford; Billy Roberts, president
\nand CEO of AmFed; and Bill Pieroni, operations vice
\npresident and chief strategist for State Farm Insurance.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Bob Hartwig probably is the most-quoted spokesperson for
\nthe insurance industry, Brian Dowd of ACE and Mario Vitale
\nof Zurich are widely recognized leaders in the industry,
\nand in Bill Pieroni, we have the chief strategist for State
\nFarm,” said Larry Cox, professor and Robertson Chair of
\nInsurance in UM’s School of Business Administration.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nHosted by the business school’s Risk Management and
\nInsurance program, the symposium consistently draws
\nhundreds of people from throughout the Mid-South.
\nRegistration is $135, although UM business students can
\nattend the educational sessions at no charge. Call

\nThe symposium offers “early bird” continuing education
\nclasses Tuesday for three hours of CE credit at no
\nadditional cost to registrants. The classes are scheduled
\nfor 1:30 p.m. at UM’s Triplett Alumni Center and library at
\nthe UM School of Law. Registrants attending all symposium
\nsessions can earn nine hours of CE credit for Mississippi
\nand Tennessee insurance licenses.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe symposium convenes Wednesday at the Oxford Conference
\nCenter, 102 Ed Perry Blvd. Luncheon speaker is Houston
\nNutt, UM’s head football coach.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“After 13 years of assembling these programs, I probably
\nshould just retire immediately because I do not know how,
\nfrom top to bottom, we can have a better roster of speakers
\nin the future,” Cox said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nAll symposium registrants and guests are invited to
\nTuesday’s opening reception, sponsored by Webb, Sanders &
\nWilliams, 6:30-11 p.m. at the Downtown Grill, 110
\nCourthouse Square.
