OXFORD, Miss. — Former Gov. William Winter is the keynote speaker for the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation’s anniversary banquet Monday (March 31) at the University of Mississippi.<\/p>\n

The event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Paul B. Johnson Commons Ballroom, is free and open to the public; however, reservations are required by noon Friday (March 28) by calling the institute at 662-915-6734.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to welcome friends and supporters of the institute,” said Susan Glisson, executive director. “The work of the institute is accomplished primarily through their unwavering assistance.”<\/p>\n

Before the dinner, a panel of past and current interns of the institute will discuss its achievements and future goals, Glisson said. The discussion, which is also open to the public, begins at 2 p.m. in the ballroom, followed by a reception. An advisory board meeting is scheduled Tuesday (April 1) at 9 a.m. in the Lyceum, room 200.<\/p>\n

Chancellor Robert Khayat created the institute in 1999 as a result of suggestions from Winter and others after UM hosted a public forum for President Clinton’s “One America: The President’s Initiative on Race.” It was renamed in 2003 to honor Winter.<\/p>\n
