This Sunday marks the 15th\u00a0anniversary of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks on the United States, and the University of Mississippi ROTC<\/a> program will honor that day’s victims with a commemorative run Friday (Sept. 9).<\/p>\n

This is the fourth annual run for Ole Miss<\/a> ROTC students, and community members are invited to participate.<\/p>\n

The run begins at 6 a.m. at the Lyceum and will be led by cadets following a cannon blast. In this noncompetitive event, runners follow cadets down University Avenue, around the Oxford Square and back to campus with a finish at the Grove stage.<\/p>\n

Athletics Director Ross Bjork and Lt. Col. Scott Walton, UM professor of military science, will provide brief remarks at the end of the run.<\/p>\n

“This commemorative run honors\u00a0the victims, the first responders and our service members and their families who put our safety and well-being ahead of their own personal needs and continue to protect today,” Walton said.<\/p>\n

Last year, about 200 cadets and midshipmen from the Army, Navy and Air Force and 500 noncadets participated in the event.<\/p>\n

Registration is not required. Participants are asked to be at the Lyceum shortly before 6 a.m. ready to run.<\/p>\n
