\nOXFORD, Miss. – Limited funding is a challenge faced by
\nmany individuals and organizations. The solution may be a
\ngrant, but a well-written proposal is a necessary step in
\nlanding such an award.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nA detailed grant writing workshop is scheduled at the
\nUniversity of Mississippi April 12 and 19 designed to teach
\nparticipants essential information and techniques for
\nwriting each major component of a grant proposal.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nPart of UM’s Communiversity program, the Effective Grant
\nWriting workshop spans consecutive Saturdays. The sessions,
\nwhich run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Weir Hall, are led by Kenneth
\nWheatley, who has consulted for several federal and state
\nagencies on grant writing and grant review. The workshop
\nfee is $300.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWheatley has reviewed more than 1,000 grant applications as
\na member of federal, state and foundation grant review
\npanels. A Certified Grant Specialist through Research
\nAssociates and the National Grant Writers Association, he
\nhas presented numerous grant writing workshops at various
\nstatewide conferences and in small group settings. In
\nFebruary 2005, Wheatley founded Project Solutions Inc., a
\ngrants development, training and project management company
\nto assist faith- and community-based organizations in
\nincreasing their capacity to win and manage grants.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Workshop discussion focuses on each of the five major
\ngrant components: problem statement, goals and objectives,
\nimplementation plan, budget and evaluation,” Wheatley
\nsaid.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThrough hands-on exercises and group discussion,
\nparticipants learn how to vary data presentation, write
\nmeasurable goals and objectives, and prepare effective
\nbudget summaries and budget narratives.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Participants are given insights into what most funders
\nlook for in a fundable project and how a typical grant
\nreview is conducted,” he said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nEffective Grant Writing is intended for both novice and
\nexperienced grant writers who seek to improve their grant
\nwriting skills and success rate.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
