OXFORD, Miss. – If laughter is the best medicine, then be
\nprepared to laugh yourself healthy at the University of
\nMississippi Opera Theatre’s performances of “Too Many
\nSopranos” and “La Perichole” this weekend in Meek Hall
\nAuditorium.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe comic operas run Friday through Sunday (April 11-13).
\nShowtimes are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m.
\nSunday. Tickets are $12.50 for adults, $10 for seniors and
\nchildren, and $8 for UM students with valid ID. They are
\navailable by calling the UM Box Office at 662-915-7411.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Both are wonderful spoofs,” said Julia Aubrey, Opera
\nTheatre director. “I do have an interesting side note on
\n‘Too Many Sopranos’: it was written by my mentor, Edwin
\nPenhorwood, who dedicated it to his wife, Costanza Cuccaro,
\nmy former voice teacher.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nIn “Too Many Sopranos,” four divas die and go to heaven,
\nonly to discover they won’t be allowed to sing in the choir
\nuntil they rescue some tenors and basses from hell to keep
\nthe heavenly choir balanced.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“La Perichole” is the story of two struggling musicians
\nvery much in love who must choose between food and true
\nlove.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
