\n\"magazine.jpg\"Funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic
\nOpportunity\/Bureau of Tourism, the June 2008 Living Blues
\nhighlights the contemporary blues scene in Chicago and the
\n25th anniversary of the Chicago Blues Festival. The
\nfestival is the area’s premier blues event and has
\npresented such artists as Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, Bo
\nDiddley and James Brown.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\n“True blues fans have always seen Living Blues as the
\nqualified blues magazine,” said Barry Dolins, deputy
\ndirector of the Chicago mayor’s office of special events.
\n“It was founded in Chicago and has really set the standard
\nfor blues journalism. (The special issue) will provide a
\ndocument that will help our city’s Convention and Tourism
\nBureau present the Chicago blues industry to a wider
\naudience.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe special issue, featuring legendary Chicago guitarist
\nBuddy Guy, is to include dozens of photographs of blues
\nartists, a blues club guide, street maps, roundup of record
\nstores and coverage of the historic Maxwell Street scene,
\nas well as guest editorials by Guy, Chicago Mayor Richard
\nM. Daley and others.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“A few years ago, we produced a similar issue for the
\nMississippi Board of Tourism,” said Brett Bonner, editor of
\nLiving Blues. “Four years later, people visiting
\nMississippi still order the issue. Similarly, our Chicago
\nBlues issue will serve as the modern travel guide for blues
\nfans and attract tourists to Chicago from around the
\nworld.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“This grant from the state of Illinois makes special issues
\nlike this possible,” said Mark Camarigg, publications
\nmanager. “We can promote the very active Chicago blues
\nscene and provide our readers substantive information
\nshould they decide to visit.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nLiving Blues was founded in Chicago in 1970 and was
\nacquired by UM’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture
