\nOXFORD, Miss. – Theatre arts students at the University of
\nMississippi cap the semester with the 27th annual
\n“Showstoppers” performances April 22-25 and 27 in Fulton
\nChapel.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nPerforming a collection of Broadway songs and dances, the
\nstudents pay tribute to individuals behind the scenes in UM
\nmusical theatre.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThis year’s theme “Showmakers” features a cast of 30
\nstudents in 20 selections that honor “the men and women who
\nnot only direct and choreograph but actually help conceive
\neither the idea or plotline for the shows,” said Rene
\nPulliam, associate professor of theatre arts and the show’s
\ndirector-choreographer.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nCurtain time is 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday with a 2 p.m.
\nmatinee Sunday. Tickets are $10.50 for adults, $8.50 for
\nchildren and seniors, and $7 for UM students. They are
\navailable by calling 662- 915-7411. Tickets are also
\navailable at the UM Box Office in the Student Union or
\nonline at http:\/\/www.ticketreturn.com.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“‘Showstoppers’ gives the students both an educational
\nexperience and a performing experience,” Pulliam said.
\n“Because of the nature of the program, we get to explore
\nsongs and dances and musicals from almost every era of
\nAmerican musical theatre.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe show includes pieces from the musicals “The Frogs,”
\n“Guys and Dolls,” “Once on this Island,” “West Side Story”
\nand “A Chorus Line.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nSarah Hill, a senior theatre arts major from Collierville,
\nTenn., performs in nine selections and choreographs three.
\nShe said it’s impossible for her to choose a favorite
\nnumber.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“They are all so different,” she said. “It’s just fun to go
\nfrom one to the other and do something different in each of
\nthem. It’s just a very lighthearted show.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe students have been rehearsing for the show since
\nOctober, said Greg Flaherty, a junior theatre arts major
\nfrom Macon, Ga. This is Flaherty’s third year to be
\ninvolved with “Showstoppers” and he performs in eight
\nnumbers.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“It is a recap of a lot of fun shows and the community
\nreally enjoys it,” Flaherty said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
