OXFORD, Miss. – Summer promises to be especially exciting
\nthis year for rising second- through seventh-graders who
\nenroll in Rebel Quest, a pilot day camp program offered
\nthroughout June by the University of Mississippi’s Division
\nof Outreach.<\/span>
\n
<\/p>\n

\nFour weeklong athletic and enrichment activity camps run
\nweekdays 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with a different theme each week,
\nincluding “Field of Dreams” (sports-oriented activities,
\nJune 2-6), “Into the Wild” (nature discovery in the
\nOxford-Lafayette County area, June 9-13), “Horton Hears a
\nWho” (sensory games and activities, June 16-20) and “August
\nRush” (fine art activities, June 23-37).
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nEach week stands alone for registration purposes. Lunch is
\nincluded in the $110 weekly fees. Enrollment is limited to

\nRebel Quest not only allows children to interact with their
\npeers and learn, but it also offers parents a meaningful
\nand affordable option for their children this summer, said
\nJason Wilkins, coordinator of pre-college programs in
\noutreach.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“It will make sure kids remain active over the summer,”
\nWilkins said. “It’s also a safe, monitored environment and
\nit gives kids something to do while their parents are at
\nwork.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMost activities are scheduled at the Turner Center.
\nSessions are to be led by qualified university and
\ncommunity instructors, including UM students majoring in
\nhealth, exercise science and recreation management.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMitchell Diggs, UM associate director of media and public
\nrelations, has enrolled his fourth-grader, Carter, in Rebel
\nQuest. He expects the program will be beneficial for his
\nson.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“I really like the idea of having a different theme every
\nweek,” Diggs said. “I think that’s important to keep the
\nkids interested and keep the learning going throughout the
\nsummer.”
