OXFORD, Miss. – Community college transfer students can
\nbenefit from a new scholarship at the University of
\nMississippi starting this fall.<\/span>

<\/p>\n

\nThe Community College Academic Excellence Scholarship
\noffers $500 per academic year for community college
\ntransfers with a minimum of 48 transfer hours and at least
\na 3.5 cumulative GPA. It is renewable for one additional
\nyear if the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA on a
\nminimum of 12 hours per semester.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nMax Miller, associate director of admissions, said the
\nscholarship is an important recruiting tool for transfer
\nstudents.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“This is a way to reward community college transfer
\nstudents who have done well and have not applied for Phi
\nTheta Kappa (the international honor society for two-year
\ncolleges),” Miller said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nTo date, 109 Community College Academic Excellence
\nScholarships have been awarded for 2008-09. One went to Ann
\nKatelyn McClellan of Leland, a pre-pharmacy major at
\nMississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead who will
\ntransfer to UM this fall.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“The scholarship is going to help pay for my tuition when I
\nattend Ole Miss,” McClellan said.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nTransfer students wanting to apply for the scholarship
\nshould submit their UM admission application with an
\nofficial copy of their community college transcript. Once
\nthey are admitted, admissions officials review the
\napplications and transcripts and automatically award the
\nscholarship to those who qualify.
