OXFORD, Miss. – Mark Wilder has been named dean of the
\nPatterson School of Accountancy at the University of
\nMississippi.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWilder joined the UM faculty in 1993 after completing
\ndoctoral studies in accountancy at Florida State
\nUniversity. He was named interim dean of accountancy last
\nyear, replacing Morris Stocks, who was appointed to a newly
\ncreated senior vice chancellor post, later moving to
\nprovost.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“I am extremely pleased that Mark will be leading the
\nPatterson School of Accountancy,” Stocks said. “In his 15
\nyears at the University of Mississippi, he has demonstrated
\nhis commitment to the teaching, research and service
\nmission of the school. The future of the Patterson School
\nof Accountancy is bright because of Dr. Wilder’s
\nleadership.”<\/span>\n<\/p>\n


Wilder’s appointment is subject to approval by the Board of
\nTrustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWilder said he is honored to have been named to lead the
\nPatterson School.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“I am grateful to Provost Stocks and Chancellor Khayat for
\nthe confidence they have shown in me. I also appreciate the
\nsupport of our faculty throughout this process.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWhen asked about his plans for the school, Wilder said, “I
\nhave a goal for our CPA exam results to be among the very
\nbest in the SEC. I also want our faculty to have more
\npublications in the elite accounting journals, so that our
\nreputation in the academic community will be further
\nenhanced.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“A key priority, though, is for us to improve in these
\nareas while in no way sacrificing our top strengths. We
\nhave a decades-old tradition of recruiting good students
\ninto accounting, being a very student oriented and teaching
\noriented faculty, staying closely connected with our alumni
\nand helping our students get placed in good professional
\npositions. I am firmly committed to make sure we continue
\nto strengthen and build on this tradition.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWilder also credited the school’s alumni for contributing
\nto its ongoing success, including its ranking in the top 30
\naccounting programs nationally for the past three years.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Our alumni are a key reason that we have such a successful
\nprogram,” he said. “I believe that we have the most loyal,
\nfaithful and generous alumni anywhere. I am very grateful
\nfor their support.”
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWilder’s achievements at UM include the campuswide Elsie
\nHood Outstanding Teacher Award in 2005 and the university’s
\nFaculty Achievement Award in 2004 – the top two faculty
\nawards at Ole Miss. Since 2004, he has directed the
\nschool’s revamped for-credit student internship program. He
\nalso received the Mississippi Society of Certified Public
\nAccountants Educator of the Year Award in 2006.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nA certified public accountant, he is involved in
\nprofessional service, including a term as president of the
\nNortheast Chapter of the MSCPA and a term as treasurer of
\nthe MSCPA, as well as a two-year term on the MSCPA Board of
\nGovernors.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nWilder received an MBA from the University of South Alabama
\nand a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama. His
\nprimary teaching areas are in financial accounting,
\nincluding the two intermediate accounting courses. He also
\nis co-instructor of a doctoral seminar in financial
\naccounting. He has conducted research in a variety of
\nareas, including earnings forecasting, financial reporting
\nand issues facing the profession.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nA native of Jacksonville, Ala., Wilder is married to the
\nformer Denise “Dede” English of Pensacola, Fla. Their
\nchildren are Sam and Zach.
\n<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
