{"id":71455,"date":"2017-10-20T14:43:54","date_gmt":"2017-10-20T19:43:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.olemiss.edu\/?p=71455"},"modified":"2017-10-20T14:43:54","modified_gmt":"2017-10-20T19:43:54","slug":"tuition-program-law-school-available-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/tuition-program-law-school-available-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Tuition Program for Law School Available for Veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-top: 0in;\">OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Beginning this fall, veterans eligible for the Post-9\/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program who enroll at the University of Mississippi School of Law will have their tuition paid in full.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in;\">Using a combination of funds from the Department of Veteran Affairs, the VA&#8217;s Yellow Ribbon Program and the university, veterans who served at least three years of active duty since Sept. 11, 2001 can go to law school for free.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\">&#8220;We are honored to participate in this initiative to fund law school for our veterans,&#8221; said Susan Duncan, UM law dean. &#8220;We owe a great debt to those who have served, and we feel this is the least we can do to honor their commitment to this country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\">The opportunity to utilize the Yellow Ribbon Program is available for any student veteran who has been accepted to law school and who meets the criteria for 100 percent of the Post-9\/11 GI Bill, said Andrew Newby, the university&#8217;s assistant director of veteran and military services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in;\">For student veterans accepted to Ole Miss who qualify for any other chapter of the GI Bill, they will be eligible for a nonresident tuition scholarship that will pay the out-of-state portion of their tuition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\">&#8220;There is no limit to the number of students that can use the Yellow Ribbon Program, and no limit for students using the nonresident tuition scholarship,&#8221; Newby said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\">For more information, contact Newby at 662-915-5021 or <a href=\"mailto:andrew@olemiss.edu\">andrew@olemiss.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 Beginning this fall, veterans eligible for the Post-9\/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program who enroll at the University of Mississippi School of Law will have their tuition paid in full.
