Registration deadline is July 2<\/h3>\n

\nOXFORD, Miss. – College and high school students, teachers and other
\nadults interested in filmmaking can benefit from the ninth annual
\nFilmmaking Workshop July 7-10 at the University of Mississippi.<\/p>\n

The intensive four-day event introduces amateurs to both film
\nappreciation and the actual techniques of filmmaking. Micah Ginn, a
\nproducer-director in UM’s Media and Documentary Projects Center, heads
\nthe session. He is assisted by Matthew Graves, also a producer-director
\nin the center.<\/p>\n

“The opportunity to work with filmmakers who are just starting out is a
\ngreat honor,” Ginn said. “We’re going to give them as much
\nencouragement and practical advice as we can, along with technical
\ntraining that will hopefully make everyone better at – and more excited
\nabout – making movies.”<\/p>\n

For fees and other information, including online registration, visit http:\/\/www.outreach.olemiss.edu\/summer\/filmmaking\/ <\/a> or contact Robert Fox at 662-915-1408 or by e-mail<\/a>.\u00a0Held at the Ole Miss-Oxford Depot, the workshop offers three options: The residential-dormitory plan is $425 and includes dormitory housing, workshop and meals; residential-hotel is $625 and includes a room at the Inn at Ole Miss, workshop and meals; commuters option is $325 and includes only the workshop. Dress is casual and comfortable throughout the week.<\/p>\n

Workshop participants will be shown a variety of films that will showcase the elements of filmmaking being discussed and applied throughout the course. They will be introduced to all aspects of the filmmaking process as they produce their own short film by the end of the workshop. Instruction includes sound, design, lighting, camera operation and storyboards.<\/p>\n

Ginn graduated from UM in 1996. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he worked in various jobs in the film industry, including casting, development, script analyst and on-set production. After five years in California, he returned to Mississippi and has since produced several short films as well as the feature length documentaries “The University Greys” and “Undefeated: The Chucky Mullins Story.”<\/p>\n

Matthew Graves’ short and feature-length films have been shown all over the country. He has produced, written, shot, scored, edited and directed more than 20 short films, and in 2003 produced and directed his first feature film “Riding the 9.” His 2006 film “Dummy” was selected as best short comedy at the 2006 Tupelo Film Festival.<\/p>\n

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to pull the shroud back on filmmaking and show young and aspiring filmmakers that the only real limitations they have in making a movie is their own imagination,” Graves said. “It’ll be fast and furious, but I hope that the students will come away at the end of the week with a deeper appreciation for the craft, a product they can be proud of and a hunger to create again.”<\/p>\n
