{"id":738,"date":"2008-07-22T17:10:29","date_gmt":"2008-07-22T22:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ezing.me\/transfer\/?p=738"},"modified":"2014-09-23T09:24:27","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T14:24:27","slug":"innocencegrant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/innocencegrant\/","title":{"rendered":"Mississippi Innocence Project Receives Grant from State Bar Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Miss. &#8211; A $75,000 grant from the Mississippi Bar Foundation<br \/>\nwill expand programs for the Mississippi Innocence Project at the<br \/>\nUniversity of Mississippi School of Law.<\/p>\n<p>The grant is to be used to expand many already existing programs at the<br \/>\nMississippi Innocence Project&#8217;s offices, said Tucker Carrington, the<br \/>\nproject&#8217;s director.<\/p>\n<p>Primarily the funding will augment case screening and investigation, as<br \/>\nwell as help support a broad and labor-intensive investigation into<br \/>\noccurrences of forensic fraud.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have had some tremendous successes in this our first year,&#8221;<br \/>\nCarrington said. &#8220;In order to keep up the momentum though, we had to<br \/>\nincrease our staff and our ability to take advantage of the<br \/>\nopportunities for reform. The support provided by this grant will be<br \/>\napplied directly to these needs. We are deeply appreciative to the<br \/>\nMississippi Supreme Court and Bar for their support in our efforts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The grant is part of $3 million awarded this year by the Mississippi<br \/>\nInterest on Lawyers Trust Account program, which was established by the<br \/>\nstate Supreme Court to provide legal aid to the poor and law-related<br \/>\npublic education programs, as well as to improve the administration of<br \/>\njustice.
