OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 The University of Mississippi family annually remembers and honors the lives of students, faculty and staff members who died during the past year.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s ceremony is set for 4 p.m. Thursday (May 3) at Paris-Yates Chapel. Established by Chancellor Emeritus Robert Khayat, UM Memorial Day is observed on the last Thursday of classes.<\/p>\n
The day is important for friends and family of the deceased, said Brandi Hephner LaBanc, vice chancellor for student affairs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe university community mourns when we lose a member of our family,\u201d she said. \u201cThis time together gives us a time to remember and reflect.\u201d<\/p>\n
The service will include music by the University String Quartet and remarks from Hephner LaBanc; Johnny Price, Staff Council president, Bryce Noonan, chair of the Faculty Senate; and Elam Miller, Associated Student Body president.<\/p>\n
