OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 The University of Mississippi Department of Music<\/a>‘s Living Music Resource will celebrate the 20th episode of “LMR Live” Tuesday evening (Oct. 2) by focusing on the musical career of Nancy Maria Balach, associate professor of music and LMR artistic director.<\/p>\n

The show, at 7:30 p.m. in Nutt Auditorium, is free and open to the public. It also can be viewed through a live stream from the LMR website.<\/p>\n

Balach, creator of the Living Music Resource<\/a>, usually hosts the show, but she will switch seats to be interviewed by Brady Bramlett, assistant director of development at Ole Miss Athletics Foundation<\/a>, UM music graduate student and former Rebel baseball pitcher.<\/p>\n

“I want to create a conversation about the performing arts,” said Balach, an acclaimed soprano. “The audience, whether in Nutt Auditorium or via the web, is part of the ‘LMR Live’ experience, (which) will give me a chance to connect with our viewers in a new way.<\/p>\n

“For this episode, I will be discussing my own personal and professional journey as a musician \u2013 being a woman in the performing arts, what it means to be a 21st century teaching artist (and) finding a work-life balance.”<\/p>\n

The interactive talk show gathers a local and international audience by approaching topics of music, community outreach and education through programs that include acclaimed composers, singers, instrumentalists, diction specialists, authors, actresses, conductors, athletes, directors and teachers from across the nation.<\/p>\n

“When I started teaching at UM in fall 2000, there were two main careers for music majors: educator or performer,” Balach said. “Over the years, as I have performed and researched, it has become apparent that music careers in today’s market have changed and the need for additional skills are imperative.<\/p>\n

“To meet these demands, I honed my research activities and created the Living Music Resource utilizing my vast experience as a performer and educator.”<\/p>\n

LMR launched in the fall of 2013 and aired its first talk show episode in March 2014. It is produced by Ole Miss undergraduate music majors, and this episode is co-sponsored by the Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n
