OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi Department of Music
\nwelcomes pianist Cynthia Perry Jones for a recital at 8 p.m. Monday
\n(Oct. 6) in Nutt Auditorium.<\/p>\n
Jones is to play Fantasy in C major by Robert Schumann, Beethoven’s
\nSonata in E flat, Op. 81a, Milonga and Sonata No. 1 by Ginastera.

Ian Hominick, UM associate professor of music, is particularly looking forward to hearing Jones play the Schumann piece. “It’s actually one of the more difficult pieces in the piano repertoire,” he said. “It’s very elaborate and romantic.”<\/p>\n

This is not the first time Jones has been invited to play at Ole Miss, Hominick said. “When I began the Piano Series at Ole Miss in 2000, she was one of my first guests.”<\/p>\n
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Jones received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the University of Alabama, where she was a frequent guest on the public television series “The Pianist at Work.”<\/p>\n
Jones has been a member of the University of Montevallo faculty for 15 years and served as chair of the music department from 2003 to 2007. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.<\/p>\n
She has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, as well as adjudicated competitions across the Southeast and throughout the country.<\/p>\n
“If you love romantic music and live performance, this is your chance to enjoy a special treat,” Hominick said. “The concerts are very intimate and if you are not used to going to concerts like this, there is no reason to be intimidated – just come and enjoy the experience.”<\/p>\n
