\nMiss. – The University of Mississippi School of Business Administration
\nhosts a Banking and Finance Symposium Friday (Nov. 7) on the Oxford
\ncampus. The eighth annual symposium tackles the subject of wealth
\nmanagement.<\/p>\n
The conference, “Looking Toward the Future: The
\nBusiness of Wealth Management,” is open to the public, including
\nstudents and alumni, and will be held at The Inn at Ole Miss from 8
\na.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is $75.
\n
“Most financial services firms have contact with or manage wealth, so this is a broad and far-reaching topic,” said Ken Cyree, interim dean of the School of Business Administration and the Frank R. Day Mississippi Bankers Association Chair. “Education is key in these uncertain times, and although we decided on this topic a long time ago, it is very relevant with what’s going on in the market today.”<\/p>\n
Stanford Financial Group, a global network of financial services companies, is the title sponsor this year for the first time. Stanford’s involvement allows the symposium to offer Continuing Education Units to attending professionals for the first time, as well as expand the conference.<\/p>\n
“Offering the CEUs provides a service to the profession and to the many different groups that may attend,” Cyree said. “We felt that would allow a broader reach into the community, so that people could not only attend and learn something new but would be getting credit for it to help fulfill requirements to remain certified in their profession.”<\/p>\n
Symposium speakers include Carl Cheney, CEO of Hancock Bank; Laura Pendergest, chief investment officer of Stanford Financial Group; and Jaret Seiberg, senior vice president of Stanford Financial Group. Bonnie Van Ness and Robert Van Ness, associate professors of finance, and UM Foundation representatives Wendell Weakley and Sandra Guest will also speak.<\/p>\n
The Van Nesses are both widely published in stock market trading and liquidity, Cyree said.<\/p>\n
Robin McGraw, CEO of Renesant Bank, will also speak and be awarded the Distinguished Finance Executive Alumni Award.<\/p>\n
Topics range from the future of banking in regards to wealth management, public policy effects on financial services and how to invest for the future.
\n“Attendees will learn how institutions managed the crisis, the role of government in the recovery, the effects on the economy and region, and goals and challenges for the future,” Cyree said.<\/p>\n
