\nMiss. – A live theater performance of “The Ant and the Elephant”
\nSaturday (Nov. 22) kicks off this season’s Family Friendly Series at
\nthe University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the
\nPerforming Arts.

\"ant-elephant-fpss.jpg\"Based on the book by beloved writer and illustrator Bill Peet, the 3 p.m. musical is the first of this season’s three shows in the series, which began last year. The schedule continues with “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley” on March 8 and The Gizmo Guys on May 2.<\/p>\n

“The Family Friendly Series incorporates learning, positive values and family time in one afternoon of absolute fun,” said Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center director. “We’re excited to bring these outstanding cultural live performances to our community.”<\/p>\n

Tickets are $7 for children under 18 and $15 for adults and available by calling 662-915-7411 or by visiting the UM Box Office in the Ole Miss Student Union from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the Ford Center Box Office from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n

An added highlight of “The Ant and the Elephant” is an exhibition of 24 of the original illustrations from the book. The free public exhibition runs through Saturday and is open until 7 p.m. on some days. Groups are welcome. For more information, call 662-915-7411 or 662-915-2787. Peet wrote and illustrated more than 30 books, which have been praised by parents, teachers, librarians and children for reading fun and teaching positive values. During his 27-year career making animated films, Peet became a Walt Disney great.
