The move to provide free access helps campuses transition to online and distance learning to protect the health and well-being of faculty, staff and students. Through the end of the spring semester, students will be allowed free access through VitalSource, which the company has worked with provide e-books and digital learning materials since 2016. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">The&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">help&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">comes at a critical time of transition<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">&nbsp;at Ole Miss<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, said Bob Cummings, associate professor of English and&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">director&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">of the UM <a href=\"https:\/\/rhetoric.olemiss.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Writing and Rhetoric<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;Textbooks\u202fform the backbone of the teaching and learning experience<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,&#8221; Cummings said. &#8220;Many of our faculty and students are displaced and separated from their textbooks.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Therefore, opening free access to these textbooks online is a tremendous boon for our students and faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8220;We are grateful to Barnes &amp; Noble and the textbook publishing community in providing free textbook access so that our students may participate in their coursework this semester and continue to make progress toward their degrees.&#8221;\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">To get started, students should visit<span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u202f<\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshelf.vitalsource.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/bookshelf.vitalsource.com\/<\/a>.
