OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 The University of Mississippi<\/a><\/span> chapter of Phi Kappa Phi honor society has been awarded Circle of Excellence Silver status for the 2019-20 academic year.<\/p>\n

It’s the second year in a row the university’s chapter has received the designation from the nation’s oldest multidisciplinary collegiate honor society.<\/p>\n

The Circle of Excellence chapter awards program acknowledges<\/a> <\/span>chapters for encouraging excellence on their campuses and engaging their communities of scholars. It also rewards chapters exhibiting outstanding performances because of their volunteer chapter officers’ efforts.<\/p>\n

“Our chapter is unique in that it recognizes top students from all disciplines, schools and colleges at the Oxford campus and the University of Mississippi Medical Center,” said Tony Ammeter, UM associate provost and director of outreach<\/a> <\/span>and continuing studies. Ammeter also serves as the university’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter president.<\/p>\n

“These students’ decision to join Phi Kappa Phi helps them as they become part of a group of scholars that value lifelong learning. The communications provided by the Phi Kappa Phi organization connects our members to this academic community with a wide range of experiences, helping members to discover new areas of knowledge and new opportunities for learning.”<\/p>\n

The university’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter<\/a> <\/span>was established in 1959.<\/p>\n

Because of the COVID-19 crisis, this year’s Phi Kappa Phi induction ceremony will not be held April 2, but welcome packets with certificates and pins will be mailed directly to the initiated students.<\/p>\n

The online application to join Phi Kappa Phi has re-opened<\/a> <\/span>for invited UM students and will remain open until April 12.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
