{"id":970,"date":"2008-11-19T14:09:37","date_gmt":"2008-11-19T20:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ezing.me\/transfer\/?p=970"},"modified":"2014-09-23T08:41:23","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T13:41:23","slug":"museumtrees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web20.olemiss.edu\/news\/wordpress\/museumtrees\/","title":{"rendered":"Museum Exhibition Showcases Artist Theora Hamblett&#8217;s &#8216;Trees&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD,<br \/>\nMiss. &#8211; Rare and previously unexhibited paintings by artist Theora<br \/>\nHamblett are on display at the University of Mississippi Museum and<br \/>\nHistoric Houses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Trees&#8221; is a 23-piece collection showcasing Hamblett&#8217;s paintings of horticulture.<br \/>\n<br \/><!--more--><br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ezing.me\/transfer\/wp-content\/uploads\/stories\/11-2008\/hamblet-trees2.jpg\" alt=\"hamblet-trees2.jpg\" style=\"margin: 5px 20px; float: left; width: 400px; height: 316px\" title=\"hamblet-trees2.jpg\" height=\"316\" width=\"400\" \/>&#8220;Theora&#8217;s rendering of trees is her trademark,&#8221; said Albert Sperath, director of University Museum. &#8220;Her trees also had a religious meaning for her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The museum, at Fifth Street and University Avenue, is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit includes the paintings titled &#8220;Blue Birds,&#8221; &#8220;Yellow Golden Landscape,&#8221; &#8220;Red Trees on a Hillside,&#8221; &#8220;Untitled&#8221; and &#8220;Over the Hill is Home.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;I hope the viewers get a sense of Theora Hamblett&#8217;s religious views and her individual style and technique,&#8221; said Katie Roberson of Charleston, a senior art history major interning at the museum this fall. Roberson selected each of the paintings for the exhibit after she discovered a poem the artist wrote about the Tree Symbol.<br \/>\n&#8220;The depiction of trees are dominant in these paintings,&#8221; Roberson said. &#8220;I think they showcase a closeness of humanity to God, which is what I think she was trying to create.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information or for assistance related to a disability, call 662-915-7073.
