Jeff
\nUlmer, who brings more than 20 years of institutional advancement
\nexperience from two prestigious Southeastern Conference schools to the University<\/st1:placetype> of Mississippi<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>, has been named president of the UMAA Foundation.<\/p>\n

“For Ole Miss athletics to be viable in the future, our donor base must be expanded,” said Athletics Director Pete Boone<\/a>.
\n“Jeff brings to us valuable experience in research, planning and
\npresentations from two SEC institutions that are very successful in
\nthis area.”<\/p>\n

“The UMAA Foundation is fortunate to have Jeff Ulmer
\nas its president,” said Ole Miss Chancellor Robert Khayat. “He is an
\nexperienced development officer who understands the role of private
\nsupport in athletics programs and will provide the kind of leadership
\nwe need to be competitive in the Southeastern Conference. Escalating
\ncosts have made it essential to increase the level of private support
\nfor athletics and we believe Jeff will provide the kind of leadership
\nwe need.”<\/span>
\n
<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/b><\/st1:city>Ulmer began his development career in 1989 at his alma mater, the University<\/st1:placetype> of Florida<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>,
\nwhere he served four colleges and participated in two capital campaigns
\nover a 15-year period. He started as the Associate Director of
\nDevelopment for UF’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, moving on
\nto become the Associate Director of Development for UF’s Institute<\/st1:placetype> of Food<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> and Agricultural Sciences.\u00a0Ulmer eventually became the Director of Development for\u00a0 Florida<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>‘s
\nLevin College of Law before moving to UF’s Warrington College of
\nBusiness\/Fisher School of Accounting as the Senior Director of
\nDevelopment.<\/p>\n

In 2003, Ulmer was lured away from his alma mater to become the Assistant Dean for Development for Vanderbilt<\/st1:placename> University<\/st1:placetype>‘s Law<\/st1:placename> School<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>
\nwhere he guided the law school through a $28 million capital campaign.
\nThree years later he was named Executive Director of Development for
\nVanderbilt’s Commodore Club, the fund raising arm of Vanderbilt
\nathletics. He was instrumental in restructuring Vanderbilt’s major gift
\nprogram, emphasizing philanthropic giving for capital and endowment
\ninitiatives.<\/p>\n

At Ole Miss, Ulmer will oversee the UMAA
\nFoundation’s development team, with a primary mission of reaching out
\nto alumni, donors and fans across the state of Mississippi<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> and around the country in an effort to secure private resources for capital projects and scholarship support.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n“Our
\ngoal is to get out on the road and meet with the people who have
\nsupported us for so many years,” Ulmer said. “By developing a stronger
\nnetwork of partners and raising the visibility of Rebel athletics
\nthroughout the state and beyond, I’m sure we will meet and exceed our
\nexpectation of standing among the most competitive programs in the
\nnation – both athletically and academically.”<\/p>\n

Ulmer grew up in Gainesville<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>
\nand around the Gator football program. At the age of 13, his first
\nassignment at UF was holding the headset cords on the sidelines for
\nthen-UF Head Football Coach Doug Dickey. After a brief time as a
\nwalk-on student-athlete on the football team in 1980, Ulmer joined the
\nGator Strength Complex where he worked as a student assistant strength
\ncoach.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nAfter graduating from Florida<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,
\nhe took a position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as assistant strength
\ncoach for one season. He eventually found his way home to Gainesville<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> to follow his dream of working in alumni development.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

“I
\nconsider myself truly blessed to have served two great institutions,
\nbut I consider myself even luckier to have the opportunity to work on
\nbehalf of Rebel athletics,” Ulmer said. “Ole Miss has the most loyal,
\nhigh-spirited and generous alumni and fans of any I have ever known. I
\nknew I was home when I arrived in Oxford<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.”<\/span>
